Fayette county health officials will have an update for you tomorrow on the shigellosis outbreak spreading around the city.
A press conference is scheduled for 10:00 a.m. at the Fayette County Health Department.
Shigella causes severe diarrhea and the passing of blood.
In 2003, there were only 136 cases in the entire state.
As of June 21st, there were 55 cases in Lexington alone.
Here are a couple of details on how to protect both your family and yourself.
As always, practice good hygiene.
More importantly, be sure to wash your hands often.
This is especially important if you have children in daycare.
Keep in mind, if you or a loved one is infected, the illness can be treated with antibiotics.
